Downers Grove

Downers Grove, IL is located in DuPage County, 21 miles West of the Loop. Downers Grove’s 25-minute express connection to the Loop via three BNSF Railway stations provides many working residents with a convenient commute to the city. It is located in the heart of the I-88 and I-355 corridors. O’Hare and Midway Airports are less than thirty minutes away. In 1997, the Village changed the course of the Downtown by establishing a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District to replace outdated infrastructure and encourage private investment. Over the past two decades, Downtown Downers Grove has benefited from nearly $50 Million in public tax dollars and $161 Million in private investments.

Several major corporations have business operations in Downers Grove including Dover Corporation, Pepperidge Farm, DeVry, Inc. and Sanford, maker of Sharpie and Paper Mate. Downers Grove has seven hotels, including two full-service hotels. Downers Grove is also home to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, which has the only Level One trauma center in DuPage County.
 
Downers Grove is served by two award-winning school districts: Community High School District 99 and Downers Grove District 58. There are 11 elementary schools, two middle schools, and two high schools. In 2013, U.S. News & World Report ranked our high schools as among the best in the state. There are also several private schools. And Downers Grove is home to the main campus of Midwestern University.
 
Downtown Downers Grove underwent a complete renovation in 2001. The renovation included replacing century-old infrastructure with new storm and sanitary sewers, water mains, and underground utilities. In addition, new sidewalks, streets, signage, park benches, and landscaping were added to the downtown. These renovations led to the Village of Downers Grove winning the “National Award for Historic Restoration/Preservation” from the American Public Works Association. Welcoming small businesses, as well as regional and national brands, Downtown Downers Grove is the proud home to over 300 businesses. Downers Grove is home to the Tivoli Theater which was built in 1928 and is located at 5021 Highland Ave. The theater was designed by Van Gurten and Van Gurten architects and has 1,012 seats. First opened on Christmas Day, 1928, this theater was the second in the U.S.A. to open with sound movies.
 
The Downers Grove Park District manages 49 park sites on over 600 acres. In addition, the park district operates the Downers Grove Golf Club and the Downers Grove Recreation Center, and holds events and programs throughout the year. Lyman Woods has over 70 acres complete with hiking trails.
 
Downers Grove was recently named one of the Top 10 Livable Cities for kids by Livability.com. Downers Grove has also been recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Friendliest Towns.
